Eduardo A. Brea, CFA, Managing Director & Board Member

Ed joined Sterling Capital Management in 1995.  He is the Manager of Sterling's Small/SMID Cap Value portfolios and Manager of Sterling's equity investment team. He has investment experience since 1989. Prior to joining Sterling, he worked for Wachovia Investment Management for five years. He served as a research analyst at Wachovia prior to co-managing their Biltmore Small Cap Special Value Fund. Ed is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received his BS in Finance. He received his MBA from University of South Florida. Ed was also a Director of Avatar Holdings from 2002 - 2009. He is a CFA charterholder.


Timothy P. Beyer, CFA, Managing Director

Tim joined Sterling Capital Management in 2004 and is the Manager of Sterling's Mid Cap Value portfolios. He has investment experience since 1989. Prior to joining Sterling, he served as Portfolio Manager of the AIM Midcap Basic Value Fund for AIM Investments. Prior to AIM, he worked at USAA managing the USAA Value Fund and USAA Balanced Fund. Before USAA he had a 12-year career at Banc of America Capital Management co-managing the Nations Value Fund and also served as Director of Asset Allocation. He served on the Council of Examiners for the CFA Institute for four years and a CFA grader for seven years. Tim is a graduate of East Carolina University where he received his BSBA in Finance. He is a CFA charterholder.


George F. Shipp, CFA, Managing Director

George joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2000 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1982.  George has served as the portfolio manager for Special Opportunities and Equity Income since their inception in 1999.  Prior to joining the team, his experience includes serving as a sell-side research analyst.  George is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his BA in Biology.  He received his MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is a CFA charterholder.


Farley C. Shiner, CFA, Managing Director

Farley joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2001 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1996.  Farley has responsibility for operations, marketing and client service for the Equity Opportunities Group.  Prior to joining the team, his experience includes serving as a sell-side research analyst.  He began his career in public accounting with the firm McGladrey & Pullen. Farley is a graduate of the College of William and Mary where he received his BBA in Accounting.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Stephen L. Morgan, Executive Director

Steve joined BB&T Asset Management in 1999 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 1980. He is responsible for managing Sterling's Select Equity Fund and he is also Senior Portfolio Manager for the Select Equity and Select Equity Income Portfolios. Prior to assuming his current role in 2008, he served as Regional Portfolio Manager in the Annapolis, MD office. Steve is a graduate of American University where he received his BS in Finance and Accounting. He received his MBA from Virginia Tech.


Patrick W. Rau, CFA, Executive Director

Patrick joined Sterling Capital Management in 2001 as an Equity Analyst. He has investment experience since 1991. Prior to joining Sterling, he worked at Bank of America Capital Management for six years where he co-managed The Nations Convertible Securities Fund. He also worked on a three person team managing the Nations Small Company and Nations Mid Cap offerings. Patrick is a graduate of Duke University where he received his AB in Political Science. He received his MBA from Vanderbilt University. He is a CFA charterholder.


Adam B. Bergman, CFA, Executive Director

Adam joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2007 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1996.  Adam serves as a portfolio manager and an equity analyst.  Prior to joining the team, he directed the investor relations efforts at Advance Auto Parts and Dollar Tree Stores.  Prior to working in investor relations, he served as a sell-side research analyst at Scott & Stringfellow.  Adam is a graduate of the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce where he received his BS in Commerce.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Guy W. Ford, CFA, Executive Director

Chip joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2010 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1982.  Chip serves as a portfolio manager and an equity analyst.  Prior to joining the team, his experience includes serving as Director of Research.  Prior to joining Scott & Stringfellow, he managed portfolios for high net worth individuals and small institutions for Pineno, Levin & Ford Asset Management.  Chip is a graduate of Duke University where he received his AB in Political Science.  He received his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a CFA charterholder.


Joshua L. Haggerty, CFA, Executive Director

Josh joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2005 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1998.  Josh serves as a portfolio manager and an equity analyst.  Prior to joining the team, he worked for Vantage Consulting Group where his responsibilities included managing a long/short hedge fund.  Josh is a graduate of James Madison University where he received his BBA in Finance.  He is a CFA charterholder.


R. Griffith Jones, Executive Director

Griff joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2000 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 2000.  Griff has responsibility for client service, trading and operations.  Prior to the team, he worked as the general manager for United Winner Metals.  Griff is a graduate of the University of Richmond where he received his BA in Political Science.  He received his Masters in Finance from New York University.


Brian M. Baker, Director

Brian joined BB&T Asset Management in 2005 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 1993. He is a Senior Equity Trader. Prior to joining BB&T, he worked at Goldman Sachs as a U.S. Shares Trader. He was also a Nasdaq market maker for Spear Leeds and Kellogg, specializing in the technology, biotechnology and consumer sectors. Brian is a graduate of Lehigh University where he received his BS in Finance.


Christopher Campbell, Director

Chris joined BB&T Asset Management in 2002 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 2002. He is a senior securities trader, with a focus on equity trading for Sterling Capital Funds as well as institutional and individual accounts. He also worked as a credit underwriter while at BB&T. Chris is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Asheville where he received his BA in Economics. He received his MBA from North Carolina State University with a concentration in financial management.


J. Blake Guyler, CFA, Director

Blake joined BB&T Asset Management in 2006 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 1997. He is an investment analyst. Prior to joining BB&T, he was an equity analyst at Dean Investment Associates. Previous work experience includes pension manager at NCR Corporation and analyst at Asset Performance Partners. Blake is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he received his BS in Business Administration. He received his MBA from the University of Cincinnati. He is a CFA charterholder.


Lee D. Houser, CFA, Director

Lee joined Sterling Capital Management in 2006 as an Equity Analyst. He has investment experience since 1999. Prior to joining Sterling, he worked for ICM Asset Management as a Senior Research Analyst. Previous work experience includes analyst positions at Redchip Research, Raymond James Financial, Inc. and also as a software engineer with Bell Atlantic Corp. Lee is a summa cum laude graduate of James Madison University where he received his BS in Mathematics and Economics. He received his MBA from Duke University. He is a CFA charterholder.


Greg Towner, CFA, CMT, Director

Greg joined BB&T Asset Management in 2007 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 1999. He is a Portfolio Manager for the Sterling Select Equity and Select Equity Income Portfolios. He is also an analyst for the Sterling Capital Funds. Prior to joining BB&T, he was a Portfolio Manager with Bank of America and a Senior Investment Specialist with Charles Schwab Corp. Greg is a graduate of Mount Union College where he received his BA. He received his MBA from The University of Central Florida with a concentration in Finance. He is a CFA charterholder. He is also a Chartered Market Technician.


Andrew N. Wessel, Director

Andrew joined Sterling Capital Management in 2012 as an Equity financial services analyst.  He has investment experience since 2001.  Prior to joining Sterling, he worked as a portfolio manager and analyst covering the financial sector with Eagle Asset Management.  Prior to Eagle, he worked as a sell side analyst with JP Morgan covering the specialty finance industry.  Andrew is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his BA in Commerce with concentration in Finance.


Robert O. Weller, CFA, Director

Rob joined Sterling Capital Management in 2012 as co-head of the Behavioral Finance Equity group at the firm.  He was one of the founding members of the U.S. based Large Cap, Mid Cap and Multi Cap Behavioral Finance strategies in 2003 at JPMorgan Investment Management.  He was responsible for the initial research on and implementation of the strategies.  His day-to-day duties included portfolio management as well as ongoing behavioral, quantitative and qualitative research.  During his tenure the funds were listed multiple times in the Wall Street Journal as "Category Kings" for top ranked performance as well as were all top quintile performers relative to their peer group since inception.  He helped grow an initial $4 million in seed capital to over $21 billion in assets under management.  Rob joined JPMorgan in 1997.  He left Investment Management in 2010 to return to the Private Bank to manage multi-asset class portfolios and subsequently head equities globally for the Private Bank's discretionary platform.  He started his career at Legg Mason Wood Walker in Baltimore, Maryland in 1996.  Rob is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland where he received his BBA in Finance.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Robert W. Bridges, CFA, Director

Bob joined Sterling Capital Management in 1996 and became a part of the Equity team in 2000.  He has over a decade of experience as a Senior Analyst supporting the firm's fundamentally driven portfolios.  In 2006, Bob embarked on a research project that led to the development of the firm's first behavioral finance investment strategy.  This process led to the creation of the Sterling Behavioral Finance Small Cap Value Diversified Alpha portfolio in 2008 and laid the groundwork for future expansion into other Behavioral Finance portfolios.  Bob continues his role as an analyst for the fundamental portfolios and also serves as co-head of the Behavioral Finance Equity group.  Prior to joining Sterling, he worked as a research analyst and investment committee member at Bridges Investment Counsel.  Bob is a graduate of Wake Forest University where he received his BS in Business.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Rose L. Alexander, Director

Rose joined Sterling Capital Management in 1993 and is a Senior Equity Trader. She has investment experience since 1981. Prior to joining Sterling, she worked as an equity trader at Nationsbank Investment Management and with the portfolio management team at Mitchell Hutchins Investment Advisory. She was also previously employed with Prudential Bache Securities. Rose is a graduate of Rutgers University where she received her BA.


Kenneth L. Wilson, Director

Ken joined Sterling Capital Management in 2005 as an Operations Analyst. In 2006, he joined Sterling's Equity trading group. He has investment experience since 2000. Prior to joining Sterling, he worked for American Hebrew Academy and for J. Bush & Co., Inc. as the Director of Trading and Operations. Ken is a graduate of Colby College where he received his BS in Economics.


Colin R. Ducharme, CFA, Director

Colin joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2011 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 2004.  Colin serves as a senior portfolio analyst.  Prior to joining the team, he worked as an equity analyst at Chase Investment Counsel, Virginia's oldest independent registered investment advisor.  Colin is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received his BA in Physics.  He received his MBA and SM in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Michael S. Peasley, CFA, Director

Mike joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2010 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 1997.  Mike serves as a senior equity analyst.  Prior to joining the team, he worked as an equity analyst at Priority Capital Management.  Prior to Priority, he worked as a sell-side research analyst at Scott & Stringfellow.  Mike is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where he received his BS in Biology.  He is a CFA charterholder.


Monica P. Kidd, Director

Monica joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2007 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realingment in January 2013.  She has investment experience since 2000.  Monica is responsible for client service, marketing and operations for the Equity Opportunities group.  Prior to joining the team, she had positions in institutional settlement and mutual fund marketing.   Monica is a graduate of the University of Richmond where she received her BLA in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Business.


Michael McLean, Associate Director

Mike joined BB&T Asset Management in 2009 and Sterling Capital Management through merger in October 2010. He has investment experience since 2002. Mike is the Operations Manager for the Elite UMA (Unified Managed Account) platform. His prior focus with the firm was equity trading for the Sterling Capital Funds as well as institutional and individual accounts. Prior to joining BB&T, he was a middle office associate at Putnam Investments. Mike is a graduate of Merrimack College where he received his BA in Management. He received his MBA from Bentley University with a concentration in Business Analytics.


Deanna P. Lowery, Associate Director

Deanna joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2011 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  She has investment experience since 1985.  Deanna is primarily responsible for managing all activities in accounts held at outside custodians.  Her duties include trading, customer service, performance reporting and invoicing, receiving and processing management fees, opening new accounts, and maintaining reconciliations.  Prior to joining the team, she held senior positions at both brokerage firms and registered investment advisory firms. 


Timothy B. Reyes, Associate Director

Tim joined the CHOICE Asset Management team of Scott & Stringfellow in 2009 and Sterling Capital Management as part of a business realignment in January 2013.  He has investment experience since 2004.  Tim is responsible for trading client accounts for all Equity Opportunities Group portfolios as well as creating and maintaining reports for the portfolios.  Prior to joining the team, he worked at Wachovia Securities in the Prime Broker department and at Scott & Stringfellow in the Mutual Funds department.  Tim is a graduate of Virginia Tech where he received his BA in Economics.  He also holds an Accounting Certificate from Virginia Commonwealth University.
